Student Expectations/Requirements Youth Apprenticeship students are expected to excel in three major areas:

Required Standards for the Youth Apprentice
As a Youth Apprenticeship student, you must maintain a C+ average at school and have a 90% attendance record. You may take advantage of many support services to help you achieve these goals, but you have to do the work! Failure to meet either of these goals can result in termination from the program and possible loss of credit.

Attendance Policy
The Youth Apprenticeship initiative strives to instill the importance of positive work habits and attitudes both on the job and in the classroom.
You must assume responsibility for regular attendance at * School * Worksite on the assigned days * Weekly YAP Meeting with Coordinator
Remember, if you do not attend high school, you cannot report to the job site except by special permission.
Your attendance will affect your eligibility for credit. It is also important in your evaluation by both your mentor and teacher.
You are an employ of the business and your employer expects you to be at work – on time everyday that you are scheduled. Excessive absences are grounds for termination. Not showing up for work on time without timely calling your employer with a valid excuse is also grounds for termination – not only from your employment but also from the Youth Apprenticeship Program. Your employer assigns you important work everyday and if you are absent then that work is not completed. You must follow the same rules as other employees.
v Once you are working for an employer as part of the Youth Apprenticeship Program, you can not change employers without first consulting and obtaining permission from the Apprenticeship Coordinator and then following proper, professional procedures.
v If you are sick and cannot go to work, you must call your mentor before you are scheduled to begin work that day. You should always carry your mentor/supervisor’s number with you.
v If you know you will be unable to attend work in advance, such as having to take a test at school, let your supervisor know why you need to be absent and work it out with him or her in advance.
v You are strongly encouraged to schedule all doctor and dentist appointments outside of your work hours; however, should you have an appointment, let your mentor know prior to the day of the appointment. The more advance the notice, the better.
v If you are absent due to a death in the family, you must call or have someone else call your employer and the Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator.
v No show to work, no call 1st offense – written warning, 2nd offense – exit out of the YA Program
